Clarke: Hoping to continue form

Clarke: Hoping to continue form

Team news ahead of Saturday's League One clash between Charlton and Chesterfield at The Valley.

Charlton boss Chris Powell hopes to name an unchanged line-up for the home clash.

Powell has stuck with the same starting XI virtually all season and his side lie top of the table following last week's win over Rochdale.

Danny Hollands is expected to be available to keep his place in midfield after his partner gave birth to triplets on Monday.

There will be a change on the bench, however, after midfielder Bradley Pritchard was ruled out for a few weeks with a broken metatarsal.

Former Leicester striker Yann Kermorgant could make the squad for the first time since he arrived at The Valley as a free agent last week, while Spanish midfielder Mikel Alonso is close to fitness after an ankle injury.

Manager John Sheridan may name an unchanged side when Chesterfield make their first trip to The Valley for more than 30 years to face the league leaders.

The Spireites recorded a 4-1 home win over Carlisle last weekend with on-loan striker Leon Clarke scoring a hat-trick.

Clarke's five goals in his first three games since arriving from Swindon has elevated him into exalted company.

The last player to achieve such a feat for the club was Dennis Woodhead during the 1955/56 season - and if Clarke scores on Saturday he will become the first Spireite to hit the back of the net in his first four games since Colin Cook in 1932.

Defenders Dean Holden and Aaron Downes, midfielder Mark Randall and forward Dean Morgan all came through a midweek friendly for the reserves and look set to challenge for places on the bench in south-east London.

Chesterfield have not won at The Valley since May 1933, with their last visit in November 1980 ending in a 1-0 defeat.
