Kennedy: Hit the winner for Dale
Jason Kennedy's strike secured a 1-0 win for Rochdale over Scunthorpe and made it back-to-back victories for Steve Eyre's side.
Dale followed up their first three-point haul of the season at Bury on Saturday with a narrow win over Alan Knill's men to lift themselves out of the bottom four.
Rochdale were first to threaten when Ashley Grimes seized on the rebound only to see his angled drive parried to safety by Iron goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, while the visitors' best first-half effort was a half volley from Jimmy Ryan, which Dale goalkeeper Jake Kean pushed over the crossbar.
The deadlock was broken in the 59th minute when Grimes' curling shot was parried by Johnstone straight into the path of Kennedy, who slipped the ball into the unguarded net from six yards.
Former Dale striker Chris Dagnall got in behind the home defence as Scunthorpe pushed for an equaliser, but Kean raced off his line quickly to deny him a goal on his return to Spotland.
Bobby Grant had a header cleared off the goalline by Widdowson in time added on while Dagnall saw a shot charged down by Dale defender Pim Bakestein.
