Gillespie: Pushing for a start

Gillespie: Pushing for a start

Team news ahead of Saturday's League One clash between Colchester United and Leyton Orient at Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Colchester have no new injury or suspension problems.

Manager John Ward could well keep faith with the same starting line-up for the third successive league match, with last weekend's 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe having followed the 4-1 home victory against Oldham.

Ward made six changes for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Barnet which sandwiched the two impressive results, but restored the same XI at Glanford Park as the one which disposed of the Latics so comfortably.

Striker Steven Gillespie is challenging for a starting berth having stepped off the bench to fire the equaliser against the Iron - his first league goal of the season.

Young midfielder Jordan Sanderson returned from his foot injury to feature for the club's reserves in midweek but this weekend is likely to come too soon for him to challenge for a place in Ward's matchday 16.

Forward Ashley Vincent (knee) and Bradley Hamilton (fractured cheekbone) continue to watch from the sidelines.

Leyton Orient have been hit with a triple injury blow.

Skipper Stephen Dawson, Elliot Omozusi and Jonathan Tehoue were all crocked during Wednesday night's epic 14-13 penalty shoot-out defeat by Dagenham in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Midfielder Dawson has an ankle problem, defender Omozusi picked up a calf injury and striker Tehoue suffered a suspected broken arm.

To cap a miserable week at Brisbane Road, 19-year-old striker Jake Argent was forced to announce his retirement due to a knee injury.

Goalkeepers Jamie Jones and David Button (both shoulder) are out, while defender Scott Cuthbert (calf) and midfielder Matthew Spring (groin) are doubts.

Michael Richardson has gone back to Newcastle following the end of his one-month spell so boss Russell Slade has drafted in another midfielder, Huddersfield's Tom Clarke, on loan.
