Edgar: Faces fitness test

Edgar: Faces fitness test

Team news for Saturday afternoon's Championship clash between Burnley and Middlesbrough at Turf Moor.

Burnley boss Eddie Howe will assess the fitness of defender David Edgar ahead of the home clash.

Edgar, 24, reported back to the club on Thursday morning after winning his third cap for Canada in their World Cup qualifying win in Puerto Rico on Tuesday night.

Howe will wait to gauge the possible side-effects before deciding whether Edgar retains his place in his starting line-up following a successful recall in Burnley's win at Derby before the international break.

Winger Keith Treacy is also back at Turf Moor after being with the Republic of Ireland squad in Dublin and Russia for their European Championship qualifiers.

Martin Paterson (thigh), Michael Duff (knee) and Danny Ings (cartilage) remain sidelined but midfielder Marvin Bartley is available again after a three-match ban.

Striker Scott McDonald could return to the Middlesbrough squad after he resumed training earlier this week.

The 28-year-old has been sidelined since damaging a hamstring in the 3-1 victory over Birmingham on August 21.

Scotland international Kevin Thomson also has a chance of forcing his way into the squad after playing 45 minutes for the reserves on Tuesday.

That was the midfielder's first taste of action since undergoing surgery on his leg and ankle following a fall from a treadmill during the summer.

Utility man Rhys Williams will be assessed after a gruelling travel marathon which took him to Brisbane and then Dammam for Australia's World Cup qualifiers against Thailand and Saudi Arabia, although he was an unused substitute in both.

Midfielder Barry Robson did get a brief run-out in Scotland's 2-2 draw with the Czech Republic but missed the Lithuania game with a minor knock while keeper Jason Steele continues his recovery from a wrist fracture.
