Straker brace sinks Wimbledon

Anthony Straker scored twice as Aldershot tasted victory for the first time this year with a 2-1 win at AFC Wimbledon.

Aldershot made a bright start to the game and deservedly opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Guy Madjo's neat back-heel found Straker, and the full-back's deflected shot found its way past Seb Brown. Despite being on the back foot for most of the half, the Dons pulled themselves level after 28 minutes, thanks to Sammy Moore's free-kick. Referee Paul Tierney pulled back the play after a foul on Luke Moore and namesake Sammy stepped up to fire a low deflected free-kick off the wall and into the net. The Shots were nearly handed the lead in fortuitous fashion five minutes after the interval, but Brown was on his toes to tip team-mate Jamie Stuart's header over the bar. Terry Brown's side then came close when Byron Harrison's effort went wide after clipping the heels of half-time substitute Rashid Yussuff. The Dons almost took the lead after 63 minutes, but Jack Midson's shot was well saved by Shots keeper Ross Worner before Yussuff fired the rebound well over. However, the visitors went ahead for the second time seven minutes later. Straker burst past Gavin Hoyte on the right-hand side before unleashing an unstoppable effort into the net from an acute angle. Wimbledon came close to an equaliser in the 77th minute but Midson's effort was saved by Worner.
