Jevons: Racing to be fit for Morecambe

Team news ahead of Saturday's League Two clash between Morecambe and Bristol Rovers at the Globe Arena.

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley has a host of injury concerns to contend with.

Midfielder Gary McDonald and striker Phil Jevons were both absent for the Shrimps' 2-1 triumph at Dagenham with knee and calf problems respectively.

Nick Fenton missed the last 20 minutes at Victoria Road after picking up a knock, while fellow defender Andy Parrish suffered an injury in training this week.

Bentley is confident of welcoming back one or two players before the weekend, although Paul Scott will definitely miss out as he continues his recuperation from knee surgery.

Bentley chose to remain upbeat, despite his side's injury woes, and demanded his fringe players seize any chance they may be given.

He told the club's official website: "It's a case of one door shuts, another one opens for whoever wants to go in there and stake their claim for a starting place."

Bristol Rovers are almost back to full strength.

After a spate of injury problems over the course of the past month, Rovers have had only Gary Sawyer (ankle) and Matt Gill (back) on the casualty list of late.

But both defender Sawyer and midfielder Gill returned to training on Thursday, and manager Paul Buckle hopes to have the pair available for selection on Saturday.

"More or less every week we have had someone returning and the question of do they go into the team, and that is not easy," Buckle told the club's official website.

"It has been a difficult spell in terms of getting continuity, but that is all part of the job. I am learning that now."

Rovers have also completed the signing of teenage Leicester midfielder Oliver Norburn on a month's loan and he could make his debut.
