Fletcher: Skipper could be in for Pilgrims

Team news ahead of Saturday's League Two clash between Plymouth Argyle and Crewe Alexandra at Home Park.

Plymouth boss Peter Reid hopes captain Carl Fletcher and defender Robbie Williams are ready to return when they host fellow League Two strugglers Crewe.

Fletcher has been plagued with a thigh injury this season and that has resulted in him missing Argyle's last two games.

Left-back Williams has been sidelined for the Pilgrims' previous three matches due to a heel problem.

Reid believes the experienced pair will be available, telling the Plymouth Herald: "I don't want to get them in too early, but we are fairly confident that both will be available for selection for the weekend."

Williams' return would be timely as fellow left-back Ben Gibson was sent-off in the defeat to Gillingham and will serve a one-match ban.

Meanwhile Crewe boss Dario Gradi will be without rookie striker Nick Powell when his struggling side travel to Plymouth.

The 17-year-old was sent off for a studs-up challenge during last weekend's 2-0 defeat at Shrewsbury, eight minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute.

He now begins a three-match suspension and Matt Tootle (groin) and Byron Moore (hamstring) could also miss out due to injury.

The Alex have lost all five matches they have played in all competitions so far this season and are the only team yet to register a point in League Two.

Yet Gradi is determined to turn things around, saying: "I don't give up without a fight. I want to see this team play and do well."
