Loft: Equalised for Vale
Port Vale kept up their promising start under Micky Adams with a point from a 1-1 draw at Staffordshire neighbours Burton.
It could have been all three on the road for the second time in four days but substitute Rob Taylor was unable to convert a late chance in Tuesday night's League Two clash at the Pirelli Stadium.
Aaron Webster put Burton ahead in the 23rd minute when he timed his run at the back post to head in a Chris Palmer corner kick.
A full-length save by Stuart Tomlinson denied Calvin Zola a second goal for the hosts in the 40th minute - and within seconds Vale were back on level terms.
Doug Loft found himself on the end of a swift breakaway attack and punished Burton's loose defending with a low shot from 20 yards.
Tom Pope had a chance to put the visitors in front in the 52nd minute but Ross Atkins came to Burton's rescue with a fine reaction save. Jacques Maghoma twice went close for the home side, but Vale finished the stronger side only for Taylor to fluff his chance in the 81st minute.
