Guttridge: Set for a late fitness test

Team news ahead of Saturday's League Two clash between Aldershot and Northampton at the EBB Stadium.

Aldershot's Luke Guttridge will undergo a late fitness test to determine if he is able to face former club Northampton.

The 29-year-old midfielder missed Shots' first league game of the season against Bradford with a knee injury sustained in a pre-season friendly win over Stoke.

He was a doubt for the Carling Cup fixture against West Ham which was postponed and the Shots are hoping the rest will ensure his availability on Saturday.

Guttridge arrived at the Recreation Ground from the Cobblers last summer and was voted Supporters' Player of the Year in his first season for the Shots.

Elsewhere, manager Dean Holdsworth has a fully-fit squad to choose from as defender Aaron Brown came through the Bantams clash unscathed.

Northampton could be without Adebayo Akinfenwa when they resume league action.

The striker sustained an injury in the warm-up ahead of the Cobblers' Carling Cup victory over Ipswich on Tuesday night.

Skipper John Johnson missed out at Portman Road after suffering a dead leg during the goalless home draw against Accrington on the opening day of the season.

Ashley Westwood and Bas Savage - who both excelled against Ipswich - are on standby to play again.

Boss Gary Johnson could also turn to Kelvin Langmead, who joined the club on loan from Peterborough this week and can operate either up front or as a centre-back.

"It's a bit early to say (on Akinfenwa and Johnson) but that's why I've brought in Bas Savage, Ashley Westwood and Kelvin Langmead, because when you play Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday you get a bit stretched and we are a bit thin on the ground," said Cobblers boss Johnson.
