Stanley pile misery on Brewers

Accrington Stanley maintained their play-off chase as they heaped more misery on struggling Burton with a 3-1 home win.

The Brewers, third from bottom of the table but with games in hand, hardly tested Reds goalkeeper Alex Cisak in a one-sided clash. It was just chance after chance for the mid-table Reds, who have games in hands on the top seven and they deservedly opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Sean Hessey's free-kick found Terry Gornell. His header was pushed out by Legzinds and Phil Edwards followed up to tap home his 11th goal of the season. Ian Craney doubled the hosts' advantage three minutes after the break when Legzinds scuffed a backpass to the midfielder and he fired low into the empty net. Brewers boss Paul Peschisolido tried to change it around with a couple of substitutions, but Stanley had the next say. Ryan found captain Procter on the edge of the area in the 67th minute and he curled in a shot into the net beyond the diving goalkeeper. The Brewers grabbed a consolation two minutes from time when substitute Greg Pearson got on the end of Scott Malone's left-wing cross with their first shot on target.
