Greek international condemns Kaiserslautern to defeat

Theofanis Gekas scored twice as Frankfurt won 3-0 at Kaiserslautern for their third straight victory to continue to climb the Bundesliga table. Gekas struck in the 45th and 67th minute, respectively, and Alexander Meier completed the scoring in the 83rd minute, with Kaiserslautern left to rue and early missed penalty from Srdjan Lakic. Kaiserslautern have lost five of their last six games and remain on seven points towards the foot of the division. Kaiserslautern had chances in the game, and blew a big one early on when Georgios Tzavellas took down Lakic in the area after 26 minutes.

    Hero

The Croatian Lakic stepped up to the spot and struck to the bottom left corner but Frankfurt keeper Oka Nikolov picked the right side and made the save. Despite not having a shot on goal until then, Frankfurt grabbed the lead in the 45th minute. Ivo Ilicevic lost the ball in the Kaiserslautern midfield and Patrick Ochs exchanged passes Pirmin Schwegler before crossing to Gekas, who slotted home. In-form Greece international Gekas ensured he was the hero as he struck a second time in the 67th minute when his initial shot was blocked but he poked home for his seventh goal of the season. And Frankfurt finished off Kaiserslautern with seven minutes remaining when Meier scoring Sebastian Jung's cross from the right side.
