Aldershot secured a comfortable passage into the next round of the JPT with a goal in each half as they beat Oxford United 2-0.

Danny Hylton drove in a 14-yard shot from Wade Small's pass in the 17th minute of Tuesday's tie at The Rec to give the Shots the lead and Damian Spencer wrapped it up 13 minutes into the second half, capitalising when Oxford defender Jake Wright dithered in front of goal. It maintained Aldershot's decent start to the season. They are unbeaten in the league, and again looked a strong outfit at home. But Oxford were left to rue missed opportunities. Alfie Potter chipped over keeper Jamie Young in the eighth minute after latching onto Ben Herd's weak back-header only to see his effort come back off the bar. And centre half Mark Creighton also struck the bar with a toe-poked shot from Richie Baker's free-kick late on. But Oxford's Ryan Clarke was much the busier of the two keepers, and he made one stunning stop from Luke Gutteridge's volley. Then, Clarke spectacularly turned over Small's angled shot, and got his arm to another Gutteridge effort before the end to spare the U's from an even heavier defeat.
