Latics lose out to Saints

Teenage winger Alex Chamberlain notched his first league goal with the winner as Southampton rallied to beat Oldham 2-1.

The 17-year-old, son of former England winger Mark Chamberlain, came on as a substitute and collected the ball 25 yards out as Oldham failed to clear a free-kick and worked his way past a couple of defenders before firing his shot across Oldham keeper Dean Brill. The goal completed the comeback for Southampton who trailed to a well-crafted 22nd-minute goal as The Latics' Chris Taylor fed an inch-perfect pass for Dean Furman to score from a tight angle. Southampton levelled in first-half injury time when Adam Lallana was fouled by the right corner flag and picked himself up to fire in a free-kick which was headed home at the near post by defender Jose Fonte. Southampton owed their win, though, to a spectacular save from keeper Kelvin Davis who sprung to his left to claw away substitute Dean Kelly's header in the fifth minute of injury time as the Saints ended Oldham's unbeaten four-match run.
