Holloway: Blackpool manager hopes to find the winning formula against Toon

Ian Holloway will be looking for an immediate response from Blackpool after their meek defeat against Wigan.

The Tangerines were brushed aside by the Latics 3-1 last week, but it was the manner of the defeat that would have caused Holloway so much concern.

It was a result that left the Tangerines in the bottom three, but with three of their remaining five games at home, their fate is still somewhat in their hands.

Blackpool's expansive style of play has seen them score 47 league goals this year, which is more than Liverpool who have only scored 46.

Worryingly for fans of the Seasiders, they have lost their last three home games 3-1, which is something they will hope to buck against Newcastle.

Alan Pardew's team will arrive at Bloomfield Road imbued with confidence from the draw against Manchester United in midweek.

That point nudged the Magpies up to 40 which should be enough to preserve their Premier League status.

The challenge for them now will be to finish as high up the table as possible but that could prove problematic.

Of their last five fixtures of the campaign, only two are at St James' Park, but with several new faces due to arrive in the summer, some players could be playing for their futures.

The Magpies have struggled for goals away from home which is illustrated by the fact that they have not scored in four of their last five away games.

David Vaughan will return to the starting line-up after missing the last two games after fears he would miss the rest of the season with hip and groin injuries.

Skipper Charlie Adam will be fit for the visit of Newcastle after he came off against Wigan and left the ground wearing a protective cast following a clash.

David Carney is ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. Matt Phillips is pushing for a start after an impressive cameo against Wigan.

Kevin Nolan returns to the Newcastle squad having missed the last two games through suspension.

Steve Harper missed the last game with a knee injury and is out for the next fortnight after a small operation, meaning Tim Krul will stand in for him.

Danny Guthrie could be out for the season after sustaining an injury to his left foot.

Leon Best (ankle), Dan Gosling (knee), Alan Smith (ankle) and Hatem Ben Arfa (broken leg) all remain sidelined.
