Live Commentary

  1. Thanks for tuning into's text commentary. Stay with us for all the post-match reaction from both camps.

  2. The full-time whistle goes and it's been an easy win for Spain. Goals in each half from David Villa set up a comfortable 2-0 success. Villa's second-half penalty miss did not really hurt Spain, who never looked like scoring.

  3. 90

Lovely football from Spain. Their passing has been brilliant, but a poor final touch allows Honduras to breathe easy.

  4. 88

The win for Spain means that they will qualify for the second round of the competition with success in their final group match against Chile.

  5. 86

Another half chance for Villa. He controls Navas' cross at the back post. He turns down the chance for a first-time shot allowing Mendoza to clear.

  6. 86

Very little happening here. This one was over as a contest a long time ago.

  7. 83

Honduras are making their third substitution with Jerry Palacios replacing striker Suazo.

  8. 82

A last-gasp touch from Figueroa prevents Villa from having a simple tap-in. Honduras have not thrown in the towel.

  9. 82

Welcome's looping header bounces wide of Casillas' far post. Not a threatening chance really.

  10. 81

Villa's well-struck effort is blocked by Figueroa. Just ten minutes remain here in Ellis Park.

  11. 79

Spain are taking their time over things. There's no rush. They have this game firmly in the bag.

  12. 78

Mata is now fouled by Palacios. Another free-kick for Spain.

  13. 76

Third and final change for Spain with Arbeloa coming on for the impressive and hard-working Ramos.

  14. 75

Spain create more space. Villa is begging for the ball in the middle, but Navas' cross just can't find his colleague.

  15. 73

Spain continue to dominate. Mata tries a left-footed shot from distance. However, the shot fails to trouble Valladares. It's all a bit too easy.

  16. 71

Welcome's tame shot is easily blocked.

  17. 70

Spain are making their second change of the match. Torres has been replaced by Juan Manuel Mata.

  18. 69

Nunez's free-kick is well over for Honduras. Just a moment of relief for the international minnows.

  19. 68

Ramos' volley is somehow deflected over for a corner. Honduras have no answers at the moment. The scoreline really could and should be greater.

  20. 67

Fabregas nearly scores with his first touch. He breaks the offside trap, gets past Valladares, but a defender is back to clear off the line.

  21. 66

Spain are now making their first change of the contest with Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas coming on for Xavi.

  22. 65

Good break by Honduras. Suazo cuts in from the left, but his left-footed effort is well wide. Casillas has had nothing to do in the second half.

  23. 63

Second change of the match for Honduras with Turcios being replaced by Nunez.

  24. 62

Villa sends his shot wide! The keeper goes the wrong way, but Villa slots his shot wide of Valladares' left-hand upright. I thought that was in.

  25. 62

David Villa is going to try and secure a hat-trick.

  26. 61

Penalty for Spain. Navas has his legs taken away by Izaguirre. No complaints from Honduras. It's an easy decision. Who will take it?

  27. 59

Not a lot happening at the moment. Spain are probing and looking certain winners of this one. Honduras don't look like scoring.

  28. 58

Match Stats: Shots on target: Spain 5 Honduras 0

  29. 56

It's all Spain at the moment. They've won back-to-back corners.

  30. 54

Pique is currently on the sidelines after getting accidentally caught in the face. There's just a bit of claret around his lips. He should be fine to continue.

  31. 52

So nearly a third as Sergio Ramos lashes a right-footed shot just wide. It was well struck and had it been on target then Valladares would of had no chance.

  32. 51

Spain break. Xavi runs at Honduras before feeding in Navas. He plays the ball back for Villa whose shot from distance takes a slight deflection past the stranded Valladares.

  33. 51

That should be that! Spain have doubled their advantage and it's Villa on target again.

  34. 50

The second half looks similar to the first so far with Spain controlling possession and Honduras holding their shape and staying compact at the back.

  35. 49

Some good defending there from Chavez keeps Navas at bay.

  36. 48

Honduras tried an audacious effort from the off with a long-range effort aimed at catching Casillas cold, but it was off target.

  37. 46

Honduras have made one change bringing on striker Welcome for Roger Espinoza.

  38. The teams are back out for the second half. I'll let you know if either manager has made any changes.

  39. SkyBet update: Spain 1/40 Honduras 80/1 Draw 16/1

  40. With Honduras rarely threatening Spain look comfortable at half time, and unless there is some drastic change, they should go on to win this game comfortably. Decent money is going on Villa (7/2) and Torres (4/1) for next goalscorer. The way the game is going, I wouldn't be surprised if one team was reduced to 10 men at some point in the 2nd half.

  41. The half-time whistle goes and Spain lead Honduras courtesy of Villa's well-taken goal.

  42. 45+1

Spain break quickly again, but Torres' first-time shot from Villa's driven pass was well blocked.

  43. 45

Just one minute of added time will be played.

  44. 45

Honduras are finishing the half with some good possession of their own. Can they create a chance?

  45. 42

The crowd were just lifted by some touches of class there from Torres. That's more like it from the Liverpool marksman.

  46. 41

Izaguirre goes down before Spain's free-kick is taken. I'm not sure the official can give anything as he's not seen it. After seeing the replays Villa actually raised his hands.

  47. 39

Valladares tries a quick goal kick in order to pick out Suazo, but he's got too many markers on him. Honduras are really struggling to threaten Casillas' goal.

  48. 38

Izaguirre is now booked for a tackle from behind on Navas. Just the second yellow card of the game.

  49. 36

Torres nearly breaks the offside trap as the linesman's flag goes up. If Torres can get his game together then Spain will win this one easily.

  50. 34

Torres is away after skipping past Mendoza following a neat ball from Villa. With a good sight of goal he blazes well over. Another poor finish by his lofty standards.

  51. 33

Decent chance for Spain. Ramos crosses the ball for Torres. A confident Torres would have buried the chance, but his header was poor.

  52. 32

Villa does well to keep the ball in play. He tries to pick out a team-mate, but there is no one in the right place to slot the ball home allowing Honduras to clear.

  53. 30

Puyol is a little tight on Suazo, who wins a free-kick for Honduras. However, Palacios' set-piece is wasteful.

  54. 28

Xavi's out swinging corner is just too strong for Pique to control towards the back post.

  55. 25

It's all Spain. Navas now wins a corner for his country.

  56. 24

Oh so nearly. Navas controls and crosses, but his teasing ball is just too high for Barca playmaker Xavi. Any contact there would almost certainly have resulted in a goal.

  57. 22

Honduras seemed to have settled now after conceding the first goal of the contest.

  58. 20

Mendoza is lucky to escape a booking for flooring the impressive Villa. That would have been a yellow card for most other officials.

  59. 20

If Spain can get a quick second it could be a long night for Honduras.

  60. 18

Just when it looked like Honduras might be coming into the game Spain forge ahead. Villa beats three would-be defenders before curling a delightful effort past Valladares inside the far corner of the net.

  61. 17

GOAL! Spain are ahead though Villa.

  62. 17

Half a sight of goal for Honduras. Suazo plays a neat one-two with Martinez, but his return ball is just a fraction long allowing Casillas to collect.

  63. 15

A nervy moment there for Casillas as he scuffs his clearance, although Honduras are unable to capitalise on the mistake.

  64. 14

Spain break quickly. Villa skips inside his marker but lashes his right-footed effort well off target. It's all Spain at the moment.

  65. 13

Martinez's low cross is easily collected by Casillas by his near post. First time we've seen Iker in action there.

  66. 11

Honduras keeper Valladares was just caught accidentally by Ramos during his dive. He's still down, but he should be okay to continue.

  67. 11

Half a chance for Spain. From a short corner Xavi crosses the ball and Sergio Ramos is unable to keep his header down.

  68. 9

Free-kick for Spain, but it comes to nothing. Xavi swings in a ball and Sergio Ramos seemed to be taken out, but it's just a goal kick for Honduras.

  69. 8

Spain mean business this evening. Turcios has now been booked.

  70. 7

Villa's long-range effort beats Valladares from 30-yards out, but the shot cannons off the crossbar. So unlucky for Spain again.

  71. 7

Spain have hit the crossbar! Nearly the opening goal of the game.

  72. 5

Torres' second isn't much better either. Villa plays in a low ball from the left, but the Liverpool man can only guide the ball goalwards without any real power.

  73. 3

Spain have settled quickly. Navas' cross is well collected by Valladares. Honduras' keeper will be happy with an early touch of the ball.

  74. 2

Honduras cross the ball into Spain's penalty area, but their star striker Suazo is deemed to have handled.

  75. 2

Torres' first touch is a bit poor and he flicks Xavi's short ball straight out of play.

  76. 1

Spain are looking comfortable on the ball early on.

  77. 1

Spain get the Group H match underway!

  78. Both national anthems were impeccably observed by the packed Ellis Park fans.

  79. Spain seem in determined mood while a number of the Honduras players look calm and relaxed with smiles on their faces.

  80. The teams are in the tunnel. Let's hope we're in for a cracker!

  81. SkyBet's match odds are here: Spain 1/8, Honduras 20/1 Draw 7/1

  82. Spain are the clear favourites going into this one at 1/8, but as we have found out numerous times in this World Cup, nothing is certain. Most punters see this one as a goal fest for the current European Champions with decent money for Spain to win 3-0 (5/1), 4-0 (6/1), 5-0 (10/1) and 6-0 (22/1). There is also good backing for over 2.5 goals at 8/15. Finally, all the money seems to be on Villa for FGS at 3/1 and Spain to be winning half time/full time.

  83. Just 15 minutes until the big kick-off. Can Spain get their campaign back on track or will the European champions be left in a hole? Join our live chat hosted by my esteemed colleague Mr Chris Burton.

  84. Spain were stunned by Switzerland in their opening match and can ill-afford to drop more points against Honduras. With Chile beating Switzerland today they will qualify for the second round if Spain draw with Honduras.

  85. Team News:

  86. Spain coach Vicente del Bosque includes striker Fernando Torres in his starting line-up. The Liverpool ace, who only recently completed his recovery from knee surgery, will join strike partner David Villa in a two-pronged attack, with Del Bosque opting for a more offensive side than the 4-5-1 formation he fielded in the 1-0 defeat to Switzerland. Andres Iniesta starts on the bench after picking up a knock against the Swiss, with the pacey Jesus Navas coming in to join Xavi, Xabi Alonso and Sergio Busquets in the four-man midfield.

  87. Honduras will be lifted by the return of striker David Suazo, who comes back in to coach Reinaldo Rueda's starting 11 after shaking off a leg injury.

  88. The teams are in for this evening's match Group H between Spain and Honduras at Ellis Park!

  89. Spain: 1-Iker Casillas; 15-Sergio Ramos, 3-Gerard Pique, 5-Carles Puyol, 11-Joan Capdevila; 22-Jesus Navas, 14-Xabi Alonso, 8-Xavi, 16-Sergio Busquets; 9-Fernando Torres, 7-David Villa.

  90. Honduras: 18-Noel Valladares; 23-Sergio Mendoza, 2-Osman Chavez, 3-Maynor Figueroa, 21-Emilio Izaguirre; 19-Danilo Turcios, 8-Wilson Palacios, 20-Amado Guevara, 13-Roger Espinoza; 15-Walter Martinez; 11-David Suazo
