  1. 90+5

The full time whistle goes. South Africa will be devastated. Uruguay were far the better team all night. Finished with a good team goal. Forlan was brilliant. He might be a good shout for the golden boot. Thanks for joining me tonight. Hope you enjoyed it. Commiserations to the hosts, they need a miracle to get to the last 16. Goodnight!

  2. 90+5

Great team move. Forlan again plays a fabulous pass to Suarez who is out wide. He controls the ball and crosses in for Pereira to head into an empty net.

  3. 90+5

    ALVARO PEREIRA

  4. 90+4

Forlan almost grabs a hat trick as he waits for the ball to bounce and volley. Khumalo comes across well however and clears for a corner.

  5. 90+3

Uruguay combine some neat passes but Khumalo intercepts and clears.

  6. 90+2

Modise tries to control a Dikgacoi pass but he can't and it runs through to Muslera.

  7. 90+1

Five minutes of stoppage time to be played.

  8. 90+1

Perez is off for Gargano as Uruguay waste some time.

  9. 90

Cavani is replaced by Fernandez for Uruguay.

  10. 89

Suarez tries a shot from outside the area but Khumalo charges his shot down out for a throw in.

  11. 88

Mphela hits a shot from way out straight into the arms of Muslera.

  12. 87

Tshabalala tries a shot but it's straight at Muslera who has had very little to do.

  13. 86

Cavani wastes another chance. Forlan causes all sorts of problems and gives it to his teammate. Cavani disappoints again however and his shot is straight at the keeper.

  14. 85

South Africa scream for a penalty. Gaxa bombs into the box but goes down too easily. It was always a hopeful shout.

  15. 84

Forlan's now the top scorer in this tournament. No one has managed two in a game yet. But he has, and it's little wonder he is the main difference.

  16. 83

Gaxa hits a shot from range but Alvaro Pereira blocks. They are completely out of ideas.

  17. 82

South African fans are leaving the stadium now. It's going to take a miracle for them to qualify through the group. It's been a bitter disappointment for them.

  18. 81

What a great penalty. Forlan was coolness personified. Josephs went the right way but Forlan put it straight into the roof of the net. South Africa are complaining that Suarez was offside before being fouled but that was not the case. Their World Cup looks to be over.

  19. 80

    FORLAN GETS HIS SECOND!

  20. 80

Off goes Pienaar for Josephs. It's a bizarre decision. Surely no chance now for the hosts.

  21. 79

Josephs, the reserve keeper is about to come on for South Africa. Can he be a hero? Diego Forlan stands and waits for his introduction. He's been waiting a while. Josephs didn't even have his boots on.

  22. 76

Disaster for South Africa. Khune is off and he can't have any complaints. He was the last man. That looks to be that.

  23. 76

Uruguay build pressure and try a few shots. Suarez gets a lucky deflection and goes around Khune before going down. The penalty is given.

  24. 75

Uruguay are getting further back but South Africa waste another opportunity. Gaxa is caught offside stupidly on the flanks.

  25. 74

The delivery is poor however. It sums up South Africa's night. They can't build ahead of steam.

  26. 73

Godin concedes a corner as the hosts try to build a bit of pressure.

  27. 72

Tshabalala hits a free kick in with his left foot but it's poor and Perez heads clear.

  28. 71

Fernandez is on for the injured Fucile for Uruguay.

  29. 71

Cavani hits another one on the half volley from range but it's way over the bar.

  30. 69

Fucile is down again and the stretcher is on. He looks pretty hurt. Fernandez looks like he's about to come on in his place.

  31. 68

Cavani has a good chance following a cross from Forlan. He hits it on the half volley but makes a complete mess of it. He has been guilty of poor finishing on several occasions today.

  32. 66

Mphela has a good chance to equalise. He steals in at the near post to try and guide Gaxa's cross into the net but Muslera puts him off and it goes wide.

  33. 65

Forlan tries a long pass towards Suarez but it's overhit and runs out for a goal kick.

  34. 63

Fucile goes down after a crunching challenge from Dikcagoi. He went in two footed, and he's lucky to still be on the pitch.

  35. 62

South Africa try a counter attack but yet again the final ball is poor and easily delat with. Maxi Pereira hits the ball from the corner of the penalty area but it goes over.

  36. 61

Forlan hits a corner which Lugano flies in for and misses. Suarez is on the end of it but he loses the ball.

  37. 61

Forlan swings in a freekick which is cleared over the bar by the head of Gaxa.

  38. 60

Mokoena concedes a free kick for a foul on Suarez, who has been a handful for the South Africa captain all night.

  39. 59

Muslera takes a goal kick. Which is practically the only thing he has had to do in this half.

  40. 58

Uruguay attack but the final ball from Pereira looking for Cavani is poor. The leaders are lacking some end product at the moment.

  41. 57

Letholonyane has gone off for the more attack minded Moriri.

  42. 57

Pienaar tries to curl a shot into the far corner but his shot is blocked.

  43. 56

Lugano gets in front of Pienaar to intercept a pass from Masilela.

  44. 55

South Africa haven't started this half any better than when they finished the first. Uruguay are dominating possession and the hosts can't get out of their half.

  45. 54

Forlan swings a free kick into the box again from distance. Lugano has a great chance to head in but he makes a mess of it and it bounces off the back of his neck. Should have done a lot better.

  46. 53

It was a foul outside the box but the way Suarez made a meal of it suggests the referee was correct.

  47. 52

Suarez weaves his way into the box and goes down under the challenge of Masilela. the referee isn't interested and waves the protests away. That could have been a penalty.

  48. 51

Forlan swings it in but it goes past everyone and out for a goalkick. Khune was lucky there. If someone was at the back post they'd have had an open goal.

  49. 49

It's resulted in a freekick which Forlan stands over to cross in from the left. Suarez is off for a quick batch of treatment.

  50. 49

Suarez looks like he's busted his lip open following a challenge by Mokoena. He didn't intend it but Suarez looks ok.

  51. 48

Suarez beats Mokoena to cross low for Cavani but he can only put it wide. Good chance.

  52. 47

Pienaar wins a free kick in the centre circle after a foul by Arevalo.

  53. 47

Maxi Pereira combines well with Suarez to cross but the ball runs through to Khune with ease.

  54. 46

Uruguay get the second half underway and immediately win a freekick after a foul by Masilela.

  55. Out come the players again for the second half. No changes to speak of. Let's hope Bafana Bafana can deliver a rousing second half performance. The crowd deserve it.

  56. The whistle goes dead on 45 minutes. no stoppage time. South Africa go in down but not out in this one. Uruguay deserve their lead and Forlan's goal was a worthy one. Forlan has been excellent, and if Uruguay are to go far, it'll be down to the performance of their main man.

  57. 45

South Africa give the ball away sloppily back to Uruguay. Parreira must make some changes at half time.

  58. 44

Arevalo hits a shot from distance for Uruguay but it goes way over the bar.

  59. 43

Dikcagoi is booked for a foul on Suarez. He'll miss the last game against France in Bloemfontaine. That's a big loss for South Africa.

  60. 42

The game is coming to a bit of a standstill as we approach half time. South Africa need some inspiration by the likes of Pienaar if they are to get an equaliser.

  61. 40

Modise puts in a cross for Mphela who hits a powerful header from the edge of the box wide. Good effort, but it would have to be a brilliant header to go in from there.

  62. 39

Uruguay win the ball through Pereira off Pienaar high up the pitch. It's piling the pressure on South Africa who are lacking the quality to build an attack.

  63. 38

Mphela gets the ball up at the attacking end but Lugano appears to hold him back. Nothing given.

  64. 37

South Africa try to build an attack but their possession is not of a threat as it's all in their own half.

  65. 36

Pienaar finds some room but he is harried out of the ball. South Africa go back on the attack. Modise was taken out by Fucile off the ball but the referee hasn't seen a thing. Should have been a free kick.

  66. 35

Perez tries to chip in a ball to Forlan who is absolutely everywhere but the quality of the pass isn't good and Khune gathers.

  67. 34

Gaxa wins a corner for the hosts with a good run and cross. The corner goes short but Tshabalala's delivery is disappointing.

  68. 34

Forlan intelligently tries to dink the ball over the defence to set up Cavani but he can't get on the end of it.

  69. 33

Suarez jinks his way around Khumalo to get a shot away from a tight angle but he hits the side netting. Decent effort.

  70. 32

Carlos Alberto Parreira paces the touchline looking pensive. His side need a little inspiration.

  71. 31

Uruguay look to be settling down, passing the ball around the centre. They'll be happy with this at half time.

  72. 30

Dikgacoi wins the ball well from Suarez to set Mphela up for a barnstorming run, but by the time he can cross he looks tired and has no one to help him.

  73. 29

Masilela plays in a cross but Rios gets on to the header and clears.

  74. 28

Forlan is everywhere at the moment. He looks every inch the player Sir Alex Ferguson signed in 2001 now. He is a key figure for his team, and surely one of the world's best centre forwards.

  75. 27

Masilela gets a cross in to the box but Tshabalala's the only one in the box and he's never going to beat Lugano or Godin.

  76. 26

Uphill task for South Africa now. The crowd are behind them but they need to pick themselves up. Uruguay have really stung them when they didn't appear to be threatening.

  77. 25

Well it wasn't quite as good as it first looked. But a goal is a goal. Forlan hits what looked to be a dipping shot right over Khune. Making us see the demon dip of the Jabulani ball. However, on replay it took a deflection off Mokoena and gave Khune no chance.

  78. 24

    FORLAN SCORES THE OPENER!

  79. 23

Suarez hits a shot from outside the area that stings the fingers of Khune. It's been a better performance from the Ajax striker than the opening game against France.

  80. 22

Perez plays a ball out to the right but Masilela wins it well. Suarez concedes a free kick for Uruguay.

  81. 21

The ball is played out wide to Gaxa who slides to keep the ball in but fails with his attempt.

  82. 20

Fucile plays an outrageously good back heel. Nothing came from it, but that was a nice piece of skill.

  83. 19

Tshabalala whips a good ball in to the back post which is cushioned back into the danger zone, but Godin clears for Uruguay. There's been an improvement from the home side here.

  84. 18

South Africa play some neat football around the middle and try to build an attack. Modise goes down and wins a free kick for the hosts.

  85. 17

Suarez does well on the right hand flank to get a cross in from the touchline but Mokoena clears.

  86. 16

Tshabalala tries to hit another shot from range with a curler but it goes well wide. Pienaar is furious, he wanted the ball played down the flank where he could have been through.

  87. 15

Fucile hurls the ball in which Suarez flicks on towards Cavani but he is judged to be offside.

  88. 14

Tshabalala hits one from way out with his right boot. Good technique, but nowhere near the finish he produced in Soccer City.

  89. 13

South Africa keep some possession in their own half but Khune's clearance only leads to them losing the ball.

  90. 12

Cavani tries to play in Suarez but again he can't find the frontman and it runs through to Khune.

  91. 11

Uruguay play some neat football but there's no end product and the ball runs through to the keeper.

  92. 10

All possession is in South Africa's half. The hosts need to push out a little more.

  93. 9

Uruguay have made the better start. If they can silence the crowd now they'll be in a good position to win this game. Forlan clips a free kick into the box towards Lugano at the back post but it's too high for the centre back.

  94. 8

Fucile decides to take one forward on his own down the left hand side. He cuts inside towards the box but shoots from the outside into the side netting.

  95. 8

Suarez gets the first shot of the evening off. But it's well wide after a good combination with Forlan.

  96. 7

Forlan hits it straight into the wall and Tshabalala clears. Another disappointing free kick in this World Cup.

  97. 6

No result. Pienaar charges out way too early and stops it with his hand. Deservedly booked. Retake.

  98. 5

Uruguay win a dubious freekick with Mokoena's challenge on Suarez, who went down like he'd been shot. Forlan's over this. Can we see a good free kick for a change?

  99. 4

The resulting corner bounces in the box dangerously but Cavani clears.

  100. 4

The freekick comes in but Lugano heads it over his own cross bar.

  101. 3

Lugano concedes a free kick for getting his arms around Mphela. Dangerous position for the home side to attack.

  102. 2

Pereira goes on a good run past two players but it's intercepted and cleared.

  103. 1

South Africa immediately go on the attack but a foul is given away.

  104. 1

South Africa get the game underway.

  105. "Bizarre moment of today - calling our IT helpdesk in S Africa and having the call centre agent blow his Vuvuzela down the phone to me in UK! He is at the game so I hope Bafana Bafana give him the win he wants." Tigger in Bircham Newton. Surprised you can hear now to be honest.

  106. Out come the teams to a riotious reception. The Vuvuzelas are as noisy as ever but surely it's all just part of the fun?

  107. If you're fancying a bet on tonight's encounter. South Africa are 2/1 to emerge victorious. Uruguay are 11/8 to beat the hosts and a draw is 15/8. Siphiwe Tshabalala is 8/1 to repeat his feat of the opener by scoring first, whilst Diego Forlan is 8/1 to grab a brace if he's on his game.

  108. So will we see South Africa pull off another surprise after drawing their opening game with Mexico? Or will this Uruguay side, who posed a decent threat to France in their opener and look a good shout to qualify, be too strong for the host nation. Your thoughts into me at mike.barton@bskyb.com please. Whatever the result, we can be sure the Vuvuzela's will be making more noise than ever, so the atmosphere should be electric in Pretoria. Enjoy the game!

  113. Hello and welcome to tonight's commentary. The host nation are back in action as we begin the second phase of games in the group stages. The first phase threw up it's biggest shock of the tournament so far with Switzerland defying the odds to beat Spain. It's been a pretty uninspiring World Cup thus far, lets hope this round of games provide the excitement we've all been waiting for.
