Iniesta: Thigh problem

Playmaker Andres Iniesta suffered an injury scare during Spain's World Cup warm-up cruise against Poland on Tuesday.

The Barcelona star asked to be substituted late in the first half of the clash in Murcia with a thigh muscle problem as Vicente Del Bosque's side ran out 6-0 winners.

Iniesta, who has suffered from a string of thigh problems over the past 12 months, was in excellent form before leaving the field as he set up the opening two goals for David Villa and David Silva.

The 26-year-old was replaced by Pedro in the 39th minute but did not head for immediate treatment and took his place on the bench alongside his team-mates.

Fernando Hierro, sporting director of the Spanish Football Federation, insisted that they were not too concerned by the problem.

He said: "It was a precaution more than anything else. He has a slight strain. He's fine, it isn't a problem."

Torres

Spain made light of Iniesta's absence in the second period, scoring four further goals with encouraging displays from two players on the comeback trail.

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who is working his way back to sharpness following a broken leg, found the net to make it 4-0 in the 57th minute.

And Fabregas, who is a summer target for Barcelona, then set up Liverpool forward Fernando Torres for the fifth, with the striker starting on the bench after a knee operation towards the end of the Premier League campaign.

Xabi Alonso and Pedro were also on target for the reigning European champions, who will travel to South Africa as favourites to claim global glory.

Spain have been placed in Group H alongside Switzerland, Honduras and Chile and open their campaign against their European rivals on 16th June.
