Paul Green's second-half strike gave Derby a share of the spoils against Bristol City, despite being under pressure for much of Saturdays clash at Ashton Gate.

The visitors suffered a scare within 30 seconds when James McEveley's poor back pass left Roy Carroll sprinting out of his area to clear the ball before City's Dele Adebola could take advantage.

Michael McIndoe kept up the early pressure for the Robins, releasing Adebola on the left for the striker to return the ball for the former Wolves man - who fired straight at Carroll.

Derby manager Paul Jewell urged his side to take control, but it was the hosts who continued the onslaught.

City took the lead after 23 minutes, Gavin Williams sliding the ball through to Brian Wilson - whose shot at goal was parried by Carroll into the path of Nicky Maynard for the striker to open his account for the club with a simple tap-in.

Kris Commons came close to an equaliser three minutes later when his free-kick was deflected by Lee Johnson, leaving goalkeeper Chris Weale scrambling to keep the ball out.

The Robins continued to push forward as Derby looked nervous at the back, and McIndoe's corner found an unmarked Bradley Orr - but the defender's half-volley was acrobatically saved by Carroll, who was keeping the visitors in touch.

Weak

Jewell brought Steve Davies on for Andrejs Pereplotkins at the break.

Against the run of play, Derby equalised - Commons' low cross intercepted by Johnson but his weak clearance falling to Green, who turned on to his left and drove the ball in at the near post, despite Weale getting a hand to the shot.

The goal sparked the Rams into life, and chances fell to Steve Howard and Nathan Ellington as they began to dominate possession.

Orr could have put the hosts ahead with 25 minutes remaining. Johnson's out-swinging corner found the full-back unmarked again, but his header was blocked on the way to goal by Martin Albrechtsen.

City captain Louis Carey should have sealed victory with 12 minutes left, heading over Johnson's corner when it looked easier to score.

Derby forced a number of saves from Weale late on as they looked for their first win of the season - but both sides were forced to settle for a draw after an entertaining contest at Ashton Gate.
