Ipswich Town ignored the distraction of a delayed kick-off to defeat Burnley 3-0 in the Championship at Turf Moor.

First-half goals from Liam Trotter and Kevin Lisbie and an own goal from Stephen Jordan were enough for Jim Magilton's Ipswich to secure the points.

Kick off was delayed by an hour after a parachutist got stuck in the roof of the stand during the pre-match entertainment.

Seven parachutists had been due to land on the Turf Moor pitch, but one went wayward and the fire brigade were called to get the parachutist down.

Burnley's embarrassment continued as Trotter volleyed Ipswich in front just after the half-hour mark before Lisbie doubled the lead with his second of the season and Jordan's own-goal late on sealed the defeat.

When the game did eventually get under way, it was the home side who started the better with Joey Gudjonsson heading wide after being found by Wade Elliott's cross.

Minutes later Burnley should have been in front when Robbie Blake's corner was met by Clarke Carlisle, but goalkeeper Richard Wright did well to tip the ball round the post.

Burnley continued to push forward in search of the lead with Chris Eagles and Chris McCann both failing with efforts from distance.

The visitors had Wright to thank for keeping them in the game when he produced another superb save to tip Eagles' shot over the bar before parrying away an Elliott header from close range.

Burnley's pathological pursuit of the lead continued as Elliott sent another header wide before Ipswich duly made them pay for their profligacy in the 33rd minute.

Tommy Miller's cross was cleared by Carlisle, but the header fell to Trotter just inside the area and he volleyed through the crowd and past Brian Jensen.

Seven minutes later they doubled their lead when Alan Lee crossed from the right for Lisbie and his first attempt was blocked before firing into the corner at the second attempt.

Burnley began the second half in similar fashion to the first with Gudjonsson having a shot well-blocked by Trotter and McCann again going close from long range.

But the visitors gradually began to exert their authority once again and Jensen had to be alert to parry away Lee's shot from inside the box.

The Clarets' defence struggled to cope with Lee who sent another curling effort just wide before being denied by another excellent save from Jensen.

Summer signing Martin Paterson made a flying start to the season with three goals in Burnley's first two games and he should have given them a lifeline in the 67th minute but fired wide from close range.

Burnley pressed for a way back into the match but couldn't find a way through and Ipswich secured the victory two minutes from time when Jordan headed past his own goalkeeper.

The home side's day was summed up in injury time when Elliott's corner found Caldwell six-yards out, but his headed cannoned off the post.
