On-loan striker Barry Conlon grabbed a goal in each half to help Grimsby ease their relegation fears with a 3-0 win over Port Vale.

Mike Newell's team ran out comfortable winners to extend the gap to the League Two drop zone to four points with two games to play.

Conlon scored his first after four minutes when he lashed home from close range after seeing a header blocked on the line.

Grimsby were flying and doubled their lead after 21 minutes when Nathan Jarman superbly volleyed home from the edge of the box.

Vale offered little for their travelling fans with only a Paul Marshall effort onto the crossbar just before half-time.

The points were sealed for Grimsby just four minutes after the interval when Conlon scored his second.

Jarman was the provider with a low cross from the right and after keeper Chris Martin had fumbled, Conlon pounced.

Vale did have a goal disallowed 18 minutes from time after an almighty scramble but the hosts were deserved winners.
