Mark McCammon's fifth goal of the season earned Gillingham a 1-0 win over Chesterfield.

Mark McCammon's fifth goal of the season kept Gillingham in with a chance of automatic promotion as they earned a 1-0 win which sees Chesterfield drop out of the play-off places.

The big striker headed in a John Nutter cross in the 22nd minute but Chesterfield had enough chances to have taken at least a point.

Top scorer Jack Lester fired over in the first half and was denied by a brave block from keeper Simon Royce when the home side stepped up the pressure after the interval.

Kevin Austin also headed against a post and Royce saved from Drew Talbot before substitute Scott Boden blazed over in stoppage time after Martin Gritton set him up.

Gillingham created little in the second half but they defended well to stay in the promotion race.
