Schalke were too strong on their travels as they beat relegation threatened Arminia Bielefeld 2-0.
Goals on the stroke of half-time and the cusp of full-time proved enough to boost Schalke's bid for European football next season as the result nudged them up to seventh.
Jefferson Farfan broke the deadlock when he headed home Christian Pander's cross from close range.
After the break Arminina tried in vain to forge a leveller but the result was put beyond any doubt when Kevin Kuranyi converted Jermaine Jones' pass in the final minute.
Arminia remain just two points and solitary place away from the Bundesliga drop zone.
