Ambrose goal downs Canaries

Charlton will play Sheffield United in the fourth round of the FA Cup after winning 1-0 at Norwich.

Addicks will tackle Blades after progressing

Charlton will play Sheffield United in the fourth round of the FA Cup following a 1-0 win over Norwich City in their replay at Carrow Road. Both sides are struggling form-wise in the Championship, but the Addicks will take a win from anywhere and Darren Ambrose's early goal was enough to see them progress at the expense of Glenn Roeder's side. With Sheffield United putting Leyton Orient to the sword on Tuesday night, Charlton, who are bottom of the Championship, will now face Kevin Blackwell's men in the fourth round at Bramall Lane. The Addicks, who last tasted success against Norwich's East Anglian rivals Ipswich on October 4, needed just six minutes to take the lead. They almost opened the scoring moments earlier when Deon Burton's 25-yard volley was kept out by City goalkeeper David Marshall - but Ambrose made no mistake from 12 yards.

No penalty

Ten minutes later, City striker Arturo Lupoli went down in the penalty area. But referee Clive Oliver was not interested. Norwich, now without a win in five games since beating Charlton 1-0 in the league at Carrow Road on December 20, failed to create a clear-cut opportunity throughout the opening 45 minutes. City came close to an equaliser 10 minutes into the second half. David Bell delivered a corner which was met by Carl Cort, making his first start for the club, but Addicks goalkeeper Darren Randolph produced an excellent save to tip the ball away for a corner. From the resulting set-piece, Josh Wright could only clear the ball to Sammy Clingan 20 yards out - but the Northern Ireland international could not find the target. Only a stunning stop from Marshall prevented Charlton from doubling their advantage in the 61st minute, the Scot keeping out Mark Hudson's header.
Header wide
Lupoli then flashed a header wide, before Wes Hoolahan replaced Cort in the 67th minute as Norwich attempted to find the equaliser. The former Blackpool midfielder was straight into the action and within three minutes tested Randolph from the edge of the box. Another City substitute also nearly made an immediate impact. Darel Russell, on for Mark Fotheringham, met a Lee Croft cross inside the box but failed to test Randolph. Teenage star Jonjo Shelvey, who scored his first senior goal in the initial tie at The Valley earlier this month, nearly added another nine minutes from time - but Marshall made a comfortable save to keep out his 25-yard effort. Norwich had a chance to force extra-time in injury-time, but Lupoli saw his header blocked by Jonathan Fortune. Full-time was greeted with boos from the disgruntled home fans.
