Weir: Should return

Rangers will look to get back to winning ways when they face Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Saturday.

Walter Smith's side dropped their first points of the season when they were held to a goalless draw against Motherwell last weekend.

Although they followed that up with a superb 1-1 UEFA Champions League draw against Stuttgart, Walter Smith's side will be hoping to end the run with a convincing win over Killie.

After an opening day victory against Hamilton, Kilmarnock have suffered three straight league defeats and will be massive underdogs to stop the rot against Rangers.

But they will be boosted by the return of striker Kevin Kyle to the starting line-up after the 28-year-old made a quick recovery from cartilage surgery.

James Fowler (hernia) is not expected to be back for at least two weeks while Mark Burchill and Alan Combe are recuperating from Achilles and hip operations respectively.

Allan Russell and Jamie Adams are still long-term absentees.

Gers boss Smith is optimistic that central defender David Weir will be back in his side for the contest.

The 39-year-old veteran missed Wednesday's tie against Stuttgart with an ankle knock he picked up in the stalemate at Motherwell.

However, the former Everton player trained on Friday and is expected to start providing he safely makes it through the session

Weir's usual partner at centre-back, midweek hero Madjid Bougherra, will not be available for selection after being shown the red card against Motherwell.

Kyle Lafferty is unlikely to make a comeback from injury while Kirk Broadfoot and Maurice Edu are in the midst of lengthy lay-offs.
