Kay: Celebrates late winner

Kay: Celebrates late winner

Antony Kay headed home the winner in an entertaining five-goal thriller as Huddersfield came from behind to beat Milton Keynes Dons 3-2.

In a fantasic second half, which rained goals, the former Barnsley midfielder lost his marker to flick his header into the net with 12 minutes to go.

Within the space of 13 minutes, it was the home side who went into the lead as Jemal Johnson's strike drilled past Alex Smithies.

Town quickly responded through a Jordan Rhodes finish, but three minutes later Dons' Jermaine Easter put the home side back in front.

That lead lasted minutes before Theo Robinson poked the ball home and Kay struck late on to claim the three points.

Dangerous

Third-placed MK Dons had Peter Leven and Danny Swailes back on the bench having shaken off injuries. Paul Ince had Dean Lewington, Mat Doumbe and David McCracken back in the starting line-up.

Despite a groin injury, Manchester United's on-loan midfielder Danny Drinkwater started and Robinson managed to shake off an ankle injury for fourth-placed Town.

It was the league's top scorers who peppered the Dons throughout the first-half with Drinkwater's crosses looking dangerous and testing Willy Gueret.

But Huddersfield were on the back foot two minutes into the second half as Dons forward Johnson capped off an impressive game from him as he cut inside and beat Alex Smithies at his near post.

But the Terriers lived up to their name and doggedly replied when seven minutes later Rhodes countered on a loose ball as Gueret hesitated, for his seventh of the season.

Three minutes later, the Dons hit back through Easter as he lifted his effort over Smithies thanks to good work from Jason Puncheon.

Town soon fired in the equaliser with a Robinson toe-poke when the Dons failed to fully clear a Joe Skarz cross from the left flank, for his seventh in as many games.

Dipping volley

It looked like Huddersfield would go ahead with half an hour to go when Rhodes let rip with a glorious dipping volley, looking for his eighth of the season, but he saw his effort cannon off the crossbar.

The away side did finally go ahead in an enthralling game when ex-Tranmere man Kay lost his marker and flicked his header into the net.

The Dons boss threw on reinforcements in the shape of Lewis Gobern and Jabo Ibehre to pressurise Town's defence.

And Gobern nearly rescued the point with 30 seconds to go but Smithies pulled off a fantastic save as the Terriers climbed to third in the table.
