Freedman: Double strike to clinch victory

Leeds' on-loan striker Dougie Freedman struck twice to dent Carlisle United's hopes of automatic promotion.

The veteran scored a 69th-minute winner after earlier hauling Leeds back into the game following Scott Dobie's first-half opener.

The victory cements Leeds' position in the play-off places with the Whites now hoping to regain the 15 points deducted at the start of the season once their arbitration hearing gets under way on Wednesday.

Should Leeds regain the points, they would overhaul Carlisle in the second automatic promotion slot.

The day had started well for the visitors who went in front when Dobie scored from close range following good work on the left by Simon Hackney.

The hosts hit back and Freedman had a good chance to equalise but headed Bradley Johnson's cross wide.

In spite of dominating possession, Leeds had little to show for it but that all changed within five minutes of the restart when Freedman put the home side back on level terms.

Scrappy

It was a scrappy goal but that mattered little to the majority of the 28,530 inside Elland Road as the Scottish international followed up Neil Kilkenny's shot to bundle the ball in.

And nine minutes later, the home side went ahead courtesy of Jonathan Howson who was on hand to fire home after substitute Tresor Kandol's shot was only parried by Keiren Westwood.

However, the lead lasted a mere minute as Scott Graham - who enjoyed a loan spell at Elland Road - drew the away side level once again after Leeds keeper Casper Ankergren spilled a corner.

The sides did not stay on equal terms for long as Kilkenny curled in a free-kick which allowed Freedman to pounce from close range and secure victory for Leeds.
