Lincoln shot-stopper Rob Burch kept out Macclesfield to earn the Imps a 0-0 draw despite them being a man down.
Burch was immediately called into action early on when Town midfielder Colin Daniel's strike was saved by the 26-year-old who pulled off a string of saves throughout the match.
The Silkmen dominated the first-half at Sincil Bank but could not find the breakthrough particularly with Burch in inspired form.
However the former Sheffield Wednesday 'keeper was finally beaten five minutes before half-time but Joe Anderson managed to clear Nathaniel Brown's header off the line.
City sparked into life in the second-half when Steven Lennon put Lenell John-Lewis clear, but the striker saw his shot blocked.
A 58th minute strike from forward Davide Somma cannoned off the post and rebounded to Lennon, however the 22-year-old sent his follow-up against the opposite upright.
The home side were then reduced to ten men after 66 minutes when Somma was given a straight red for an off-the-ball incident involving Sean Hessey.
Despite Lincoln's man disadvantage, it was the home side that had the best chance six minutes from time when Brian Gilmour played in Matthew Saunders but the midfielder's left-foot effort was saved by Jose Veiga.
