A superb individual goal from Jonathan Delaplace helped Lille maintain their unbeaten start of the Ligue 1 season with a 2-0 win at home to Lorient.

Delaplace broke the deadlock early in the second half, finishing off a fine run with a well-placed low shot, before Simon Kjaer's deflected free-kick sealed the points.

The win moved Lille on to seven points from three games and left them second in the table, behind only Bordeaux.

Lille might have gone in front after 12 minutes when Nolan Roux showed good skill to pick out Delaplace on the right.

He fired in a shot across the body of Benjamin Lecomte, but the visitors' goalkeeper made the save with his right foot.

Lorient twice saw efforts fly over from long range, but it was the hosts who continued to pose the greater threat.

Idrissa Gueye tried his luck from the left angle of the area, but Lecomte gathered the shot at his near post.

Lille came racing out of the traps in the second half and Marcos Lopes shot into the side-netting following some good work from Roux.

At the other end Bryan Pele met Jordan Ayew's pass with a first-time volley, but it did not cause Vincent Enyeama in the home goal too much concern.

Instead Lille took the lead in superb fashion in the 57th minute, Delaplace picking the ball up in midfielder and powering forward before dispatching a clinical shot low into the right corner.

And their second arrived 18 minutes from time, Kjaer seeing his 25-yard free-kick take a deflection off the wall and leave Lecomte wrong-footed.
