Hibernian reduced Rangers' lead at the top of the Scottish Championship to five points as they beat the Ibrox side 2-1.

Jason Cummings scored early in a first half the visitors dominated but lacked any sort of edge in when they got into the final third.

Rangers were rejuvenated after the break, however, and levelled within 90 seconds of the restart when Lee Wallace's shot took a big deflection off his former team-mate Darren McGregor.

For a long spell after, it looked only like Mark Warburton's team would win but Paul Hanlon headed in with 17 minutes left to swing it Hibs' way instead.

Winning has injected new life into Alan Stubbs' side who have now recorded 10 wins in their last 11 competitive outings.

Cummings opener was a fine strike as he burst away from Danny Wilson to shoot low across Wes Foderingham and in with a ferocious opener.

Rangers camped themselves in Hibs' half after that but were Wallace and James Tavernier were off target with the few chances they had and they looked short of ideas.

That changed after the break when Wallace made it 1-1 then hit the bar with another effort that deflected off McGregor before substitute Nathan Oduwa also struck the post from 18 yards.

Hibs were hanging on but after performing well for large spells then losing in their other two games with Rangers this season, they got a break they perhaps deserved for their perseverance.

Mark Warburton said Rangers weren't clinical enough in front of goal

Foderingham saved superbly from Cummings and then pushed a well-hit John McGinn free kick over the bar.

That was the cue for the Edinburgh team's winner and Hanlon showed more desire than anyone to head the set piece in from close range.

Alan Stubbs praised his players for an 'unbelievable win' as Hibernian closed the gap at the top of the Scottish Championship with a 2-1 win over Rangers

His goal means Brighton are now the only unbeaten team in senior British league football - and Rangers' long winning run in Scotland's second tier is over.
