Brandby and Guinan defeat Orient

Hereford boosted their hopes of League One survival as they beat Leyton Orient 2-1 at Edgar Street. Forward Febian Brandy, currently on loan from Manchester United, drove the ball past goalkeeper Jamie Jones from 15 yards out to put Hereford in front in just the fifth minute. Striker Steve Guinan doubled Hereford's advantage 10 minutes later when he sent goalkeeper Jones the wrong way from the penalty spot after Brandy had been brought down by Alton Thelwell. Midfielder Sam Hewson also had a 25-yard free-kick blocked, while Brandy cleared the crossbar from close range as Hereford continued to push forward. But Orient reduced the deficit on the stroke of half-time when skipper Tamika Mkandawire drove the ball past goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi after Hereford had failed to clear their lines following a Charlie Daniels free-kick. Orient stepped up a gear in the second half with Mkandawire heading wide of the post, while goalkeeper Gulacsi made a fine save to deny Charlie Daniels as the Bulls held on.
