Promoted Guingamp picked up their second Ligue 1 win of the season in emphatic style with a 5-1 win over Sochaux.

Promoted Guingamp picked up their second Ligue 1 win of the season in emphatic style on Wednesday evening - and heaped further misery on sorry Sochaux. Jocelyn Gourvennec's side headed into the game 16th in the standings but having collected five points from their last four matches, and stormed into a three-goal half-time advantage thanks to strikes from Christophe Mandanne, Claudio Beauvue and Fatih Atik. Substitute Cedric Bakambu reduced the deficit for the bottom-of-the-table visitors two minutes after the interval, but Younousse Sankhare snuffed out any remote hopes of a comeback 20 minutes from time and then Steeven Langil rounded off a 5-1 home victory at the death. The hosts served an early warning of what was to come in the sixth minute, with only a firm hand from Sochaux goalkeeper Simon Pouplin keeping out a Mandanne header from Atik's free-kick. Four minutes later, the top-flight new boys were ahead. Sankhare capitalised on sloppy defending and fed Mandanne, who made no mistake when one on one with Pouplin. Sochaux found themselves two down on 17 minutes and again only had themselves to blame after carelessly squandering possession. Beauvue outjumped Sanjin Prcic to the ball from a corner and nodded the home team further ahead. A third Guingamp goal was ruled out on the half-hour mark when Mandanne beat Pouplin again only for referee Freddy Fautrel adjudged there had been a foul by Mustapha Yatabare on Cedric Kante. The home fans did not have to wait too much longer for the three-goal cushion, though, as Atik's fine free-kick wrong-footed Pouplin and found the net via the post in the 33rd minute. Sochaux gave under-pressure coach Eric Hely a moment of relief early in the second period by pulling a goal back, Bakambu latching onto Thomas Guerbert's neat pass and firing a first-time shot past Guy N'Dy Assembe, but that was as good as it got for the basement boys. Pouplin failed to deal with a Beauvue ball from deep in the 70th minute and it fell kindly for Yatabare, who teed up Sankhare for Guingamp's fourth. The hosts rubbed salt in the Sochaux wounds deep in stoppage time when Langil burst down the left, shifted the ball onto his right foot and despatched a magnificent 25-yard drive beyond Pouplin and into the top corner.
