Stelios came off the bench in extra-time to fire Bolton into the Carling Cup fourth round.

Super sub on target with game heading for penalties

Stelios Giannakopoulos came off the bench in extra-time to fire Bolton into the Carling Cup fourth round and give Sammy Lee a much-needed win against Fulham. Lee made nine changes and Danny Guthrie, who was making his Bolton debut, gave The Trotters the lead with an excellent finish shortly before the hour mark. But substitute David Healy sent the game into extra-time just a matter of minutes after coming on when he fired home in the 78th minute. With the game looking like heading for penalties, another substitute Stelios popped up in the 112th minute to secure only Bolton's second win of the season.

Bolton bright

Bolton were the first to threaten in the seventh minute when Mikel Alonso's long free-kick from the left found the head of a leaping Daniel Braaten, whose effort was clutched just under the bar by Keller. Braaten's foul on Murphy gave Fulham a free-kick at the other end and Hameur Bouazza's direct shot from 20 yards made Ali Al Habsi work hard for the save. Fulham had a scare when Alonso's shot deflected off Carlos Bocanegra and into the side-netting with Keller going the wrong way after 19 minutes, before Gerald Cid forced Keller into a good save with a header from a corner. Murphy fired just wide and Bolton rode their luck when shots by Bouazza and Simon Davies both deflected off Cid for corners. But the home side had a major escape just before the break when Braaten - who appeared to be offside - saw a shot blocked by Keller. It was no surprise when the visitors took the lead in the 57th minute with a cracking drive by on-loan Liverpool youngster Guthrie, who powered in from 25 yards. Bolton almost scored again five minutes later when Braaten took Nicky Hunt's pass in his stride and shot just wide of the near post. Clint Dempsey broke through for Fulham after a throw-in bounced awkwardly in the Bolton area but Al Habsi admirably smothered the American's shot.
Further 30 minutes
Healy replaced Baird in the 72nd minute - and the Northern Ireland international striker equalised six minutes later. Seol Ki-Hyeon's cross from the left was headed out by Abdoulaye Meite but straight to Healy, who rifled the ball through a crowd of players - with referee Steve Bennett ideally positioned to see it had crossed the line before being hacked away. Fulham finally took a grip against Bolton's much-weakened side in extra-time, with Healy and substitute Diomansy Kamara both hitting the woodwork. But Stelios made the decisive breakthrough with eight minutes left, after shoving defender Paul Konchesky off the ball and netting past Keller to book Bolton's place in Saturday's draw for the next round.
