Freiburg took the honours in the Baden-Wurttemberg derby against Stuttgart with a comfortable 3-0 win at the Dreisamstadion on Sunday afternoon. Jan Rosenthal gave the hosts the lead in the first half before Pavel Krmas and Max Kruse added two more goals for Christian Streich's men, who moved up to sixth on the back of their fourth game in a row without defeat. Stuttgart were brought crashing back down to earth after a 5-1 Europa League win over Steaua Bucharest in Romania on Thursday - a game which probably took too much energy out of them for such an intense derby encounter. After a slow start to today's match, Freiburg got a grip with Cedrick Makiadi heading their first chance wide. Julian Schmid was denied a chance by a bold last-ditch challenge from Cristian Molinaro before Julian Schuster tested Sven Ulreich. A goal looked on the cards and it came from the boot of Rosenthal in the 22nd minute, his shot passing between the legs of William Kvist on its way in. Stuttgart almost levelled immediately after half-time when Molinaro's cross flashed past both Shinji Okasaki and Christian Gentner, but that proved to be the last real chance for Bruno Labbadia's side. Krmas was on hand to tuck the ball in to make it two in the 67th minute after Ulreich had pushed it out to him. And Kruse made it three six minutes later, finishing off Caligiuri's assist to send Freiburg into the top six.
