Forest Green sent League Two side Rochdale crashing out of the FA Cup after a 2-0 home win.

Smith and Low cause cup shock

Jonathan Smith and Josh Low sent League Two side Rochdale crashing out of the FA Cup and booked Forest Green's place in the third round for the first time in the club's history thanks to a 2-0 victory. The home side, who have been in dreadful form in the Blue Square Premier, belied their lowly league position to dominate for long periods with Smith and Low doing the damage either side of the half-time interval. Dale had the first chance after 11 minutes when Adam Le Fondre flicked on goalkeeper Sam Russell's long punt forward, but Keiran Toner blazed over from 15 yards. Fifteen minutes later, Forest Green made the visitors pay for thier profligacy when Paul Stonehouse's low cross from the left was dummied by Low for Smith to fire in from ten yards at the back post. Just before the break, Lee Fowler released Andy Mangan on the left, who beat Marcus Holness before cutting into the box only for his shot to be brilliantly blocked by Dale's Rory McArdle. The hosts should have added a second three minutes into the second half when the unmarked Andrew Mangan headed Jerry Gill's cross wide. Le Fondre then had a header cleared off the line by Stonehouse and, 11 minutes after the restart, Forest Green did double their lead. Low was sent clear by Gill and kept his cool before slamming the ball past Russell.
