Aguero shines as Argentina edge out Egypt

Two second-half goals secured a comfortable victory for Argentina over Egypt in Cairo on Wednesday. Strikes from Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero and Nicolas Burdisso, with his first international goal, ensured victory for Alfio Basile's side over the Africa Cup of Nations winners. Argentina, without the injured Lionel Messi and Roman Riquelme, went close when Luis Gonzalez fired across the face of the goal in the opening minute.

Cleared

Martin Demichelis then went close with a header before Maxi Rodriguez saw his lob cleared off the line by Hani Said. Mohamed Zidan twice went close for the home side either side of the break but their best chance fell to Mohamed Aboutrika, however he shot weakly at Roberto Abbondanzieri from close range. Argentina's makeshift strike partnership of Julio Cruz and Aguero rarely threatened until the 64th minute when Aguero swept the ball wide from inside the area.
Eluded
The breakthrough eventually came two minutes later when a long ball eluded the Egypt defence and Aguero burst into the box and fired into the roof of the net. The 19-year-old wasted a great chance to double his tally after Fernando Gago had opened up the Pharaohs' defence. Argentina added a second five minutes from time when Burdisso scored with a looping header at the far post after being picked out by Rodriguez's free kick.
