Home side should have had more in lively second half

Dagenham ended a run of four successive defeats with a 1-0 victory against second-placed Bournemouth. The Daggers went in front six minutes before half-time when Peter Gain was upended in the box and the home side were awarded a penalty. Skipper Mark Arber stepped up to take the spot-kick and sent Shwan Jalal for the opener. Chances were few and far between in the first 45 as Paul Benson failed to convert Graeme Montgomery's cross into the net and instead sent it sailing over the bar. Brett Pitman had the Cherries' best effort but he uncharacteristically fired off target. More chances were created in the second-half as Liam Feeney forced Tony Roberts into a good save before Gain drilled his effort just wide.

    Equaliser

Roberts was again in action, this time denying Pitman's header as Bournemouth looked for the equaliser. Daggers could have put the game beyond their League Two opponents when Benson's shot cannoned off the bar and Montgomery's follow-up was cleared off the line. Bournemouth midfielder Anton Robinson then went close to an equaliser but fired wide from 16 yards and Montgomery had a glorious chance to wrap up the three points but he skewed his effort off target from just outside the box. Josh Scott came close to killing the game off but his snapshot was somehow saved by the wrong-footed Jalal, before the keeper then twice saved from the striker when he was one-on-one.
