Italian strikes to spoil Parkinson's day

Substitute Arturo Lupoli denied Phil Parkinson a first win as Charlton's full-time manager and kept Norwich in the FA Cup. The Italian cancelled out a first career goal from 16-year-old Addicks midfielder Jonjo Shelvey and stretched the hosts' winless run to 17 games. The two sides, embroiled in a Championship relegation battle, now face a replay they could both do without. Norwich, who wore retro strips to commemorate their run to the FA Cup semi-finals as a third division side 50 years ago, were grateful to Lupoli's strike 20 minutes from time. The visitors were on the back foot throughout the first half, with Lloyd Sam shooting over the top early on and Deon Burton getting a touch on Hameur Bouazza's cross but guiding the ball narrowly wide.

Crucial

Charlton took the lead after 20 minutes when Bouazza crossed from the left and Shelvey thumped home a superb shot from just outside the penalty area. The youngster almost doubled his tally when Bouazza drilled the ball across goal, but neither he nor Sam could get the crucial touch. City keeper David Marshall tipped Burton's powerful header over the crossbar, and Sam fired inches wide shortly before the break. As the second half got under way Bouazza was twice denied by Marshall, who then pulled off another smart stop from Burton to keep his side in the tie. And with Charlton unable to find the killer second, the jitters which have haunted them all season resurfaced and Norwich hauled themselves level thanks to two substitutes. The increasingly influential Wes Hoolahan found Lupoli inside the penalty area and the former Arsenal striker fired past Charlton goalkeeper Rob Elliot. Lupoli could have grabbed a late winner for the visitors but sent his shot just wide.
