Francesco Lodi's late free-kick ensured that Catania beat Genoa 3-2 at the Stadio Angelo Massimino.

Francesco Lodi's late free-kick ensured that Catania beat Genoa 3-2 at the Stadio Angelo Massimino. Juraj Kucka gave the visitors the lead before a double from Gonzalo Bergessio put the hosts in front. Bosko Jakovic equalised, however Lodi netted with six minutes left to seal the win. Catania were unchanged from last weekend's 2-2 draw with Roma, while the visitors made three. Mario Samprisi replaced Giandomenico Mesto, who has joined Napoli, Daniel Tozser came in for Cristobal Jorquera, while Juan Vargas, signed on loan from Fiorentina, started with Alexander Merkel dropping out. The home side started strongly, forcing a number of early corners before Pablo Barrientos fired wide when well placed inside the area after 19 minutes. Alejandro Gomez forced the first save of the match from Sebastien Frey two minutes later before Sergio Almiro shot wide after 25 minutes. Less than 60 seconds later and the visitors scored against the run of play with Kucka scoring from close range after he was played in brilliantly by Ciro Immobile. Bergessio was next to go close after he headed over from 10 yards out, before Immobile missed the target from a similar position after 35 minutes. Catania continued to control the game and after 66 minutes were level as Bergessio fired home into the bottom right hand corner. And just two minutes later they were ahead with Bergessio heading home Gomez's cross. The visitors thought they had grabbed a share of the spoils when Bosko Jankovic scored from the edge of the area with eight minutes left but Lodi's free-kick with six minutes left secured the win.
