Bluebirds struggling for firepower

Cardiff face an attacking dilemma while Birmingham shuffle their pack ahead of Saturday's clash at Ninian Park. The Bluebirds strike force has hit crisis point with over 10 hours of football since the last forward registered a goal in open play. Eddie Johnson's below-par performance in Tuesday's Carling Cup defeat to local rivals Swansea means Jones looks set to turn to Jay Bothroyd and Ross McCormack to get on the score-sheet against Blues. Stephen McPhail's red against the Swans means Paul Parry looks certain to start in central midfield while Darcy Blake is pushing for a return after a facial injury. Defender Gabor Gyepes is available after being cup-tied in midweek but midfielders Mark Kennedy (hamstring), Riccardo Scimeca (knee) and Tony Capaldi (knee) are unavailable and are expected to return next month.

Birmingham news

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish was far from impressed with his side's display last Saturday as they crashed to a 1-0 defeat at home to Blackpool. It was the Blues' first league defeat of the season and McLeish seems likely to make changes to his team for the trip to Cardiff. Scottish striker Garry O'Connor is likely to come into attack after impressing in training and for the reserves since his groin problem, while former Cardiff man Cameron Jerome is also in contention for a starting berth. Right-back Stephen Kelly has been ruled out for three to four weeks with a thigh strain but Stuart Parnaby should return after overcoming ankle ligament problems. Centre-back Radhi Jaidi has also impressed in training of late and could feature while goalkeeper Colin Doyle will take his place on the bench following minor knee surgery. Mehdi Nafti serves the final game of his three-match ban while fellow central midfielder Damien Johnson is still out with a back complaint.
