The Ligue 1 title is almost in Paris St Germain's hands after Caen stunned Lyon 3-0 on Saturday.

Needing to win to keep PSG within three points with two games left, Lyon folded at the strugglers and now need a shock string of results to pip the capital club.

This defeat means they are six points behind with six to play for and with a significantly worse goal difference. PSG were already the favourites, but the race is now all but over

Nicolas Benezet scored twice in a thrilling period before the break and Sloan Privat wrapped things up before full-time.

After PSG's 6-0 thrashing of Guingamp, it could not have been more obvious what Lyon needed to do and they at least started as if they knew, Alexandre Lacazette drawing a save from Remy Vercoutre and the same man seeing a shot deflected behind off Damian Da Silva.

That spell of pressure would be as good as it would get for Lyon, though.

Three minutes before the break Benezet opened the scoring. N'Gola Kante played a ball through and the striker ran on to it before stalling, setting himself and curling in a 25-yarder that left Anthony Lopes stranded.

Lyon barely had chance to register what had happened before they were two down. The same duo combined again, with Kante winning the ball in midfield and feeding Benezet, who did the rest from the left-side of the box.

Lyon were stunned going in at the interval but at least offered some response in the second half.

Clement Grenier went on a winding run and cracked in a shot which Vercoutre kept out, with the keeper also denying Nabil Fekir from close range.

Lyon's title hopes were disappearing before them and they knew it, their luck summed up by another stunning Vercoutre save from Fekir.

The way it was going Caen were bound to score a clincher on the break and so it proved five minutes from the end. Kante, excellent throughout, won the ball in midfield, released Feret and eventually Privat was played in to finish the job.

As well as the consequences for Lyon, this was a significant result for Caen, who are now five points above the bottom three with two games to play.
