Palace come from behind to make round two

Crystal Palace made hard work of seeing off Hereford as they scraped a 2-1 win in the Carling Cup. The Eagles march on to round two, but were forced to come from behind in order to see off League One opposition. Moses Ashikodi gave the visitors the lead, but Nick Carle and John Oster scored either side of the interval to put Neil Warnock's men through. Ashikodi gave lacklustre Palace a wake-up call when he scored a deserved opener five minutes before the end of the first period. The 21-year-old striker is already with the eighth club of a brief career which has also taken in spells with Millwall, West Ham and Rangers.

Crossbar

He arrived at the Bulls on loan from Watford this summer and got off the mark for his new club four minutes before the interval with a fine header, off the underside of the crossbar, from Kris Taylor's left-wing cross. But Palace upped their game and hit back almost straight away through Carle. The Australian had already ballooned one effort into the Hereford fans behind Darren Randolph's goal, but he made no mistake moments later with a fine left-footed shot which flew past the helpless Bulls keeper. Three minutes after the break Palace went ahead through debutant Oster, who was surely attempting a cross when he lofted a high ball in and watched it loop over Randolph's head and in off the far post.
