Morrell fires winner

Bury kept their place in the top three with a 1-0 home win over promotion rivals Bradford. The Shakers were boosted by the news forward Andy Bishop has finally signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal and strike partner Andy Morrell gave them a deserved 76th-minute winner. The hosts enjoyed the better chances in a hard-fought first half with Bradford goalkeeper Rhys Evans denying Morrell an early opener after deflecting Elliott Bennett's cross goalwards. Barry Conlon replaced Peter Thorne up front for Bradford and headed well wide from a Nicky Law corner before Bury's Mike Jones and Morrell fired off target just after the half-hour mark, Bishop the provider on both occasions. Evans had to turn wide a fierce effort from Jones just before the break, while Paul McClaren blazed over from Bradford's first decent chance. Bury remained on top after the restart, Morrell heading wide from a Brian Barry-Murphy cross while Bishop was denied by Evans after being put through by Bennett. Bradford replied with Law firing straight at Mark Tyler, although the hosts were the more adventurous, Morrell this time heading wide from a Jones centre. But Morrell found the target with time running out, cutting in from the left before firing inside the near post. Conlon and sub Michael Boulding went close late on but Bury held on.
