Clarets duo set for recalls; triple injury boost for Irvine

Burnley go head-to-head with Lancashire rivals Preston North End in the Championship at Turf Moor on Saturday. The home side head into the encounter unbeaten in five league games, while Preston are out to bounce back from their first loss of the season last weekend against Wolves. Clarets striker Steven Thompson and winger Chris Eagles are set to be recalled for the clash, after the former was cup-tied in midweek Ex-Manchester United man Eagles could also earn a recall to the starting line-up after only making the substitutes' bench against Fulham. Russell Anderson, on loan from Sunderland, has been ruled out for the season after he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury during the 1-0 win. Ade Akinbiyi and Kevin McDonald were unavailable for selection on Tuesday due to injury and could again miss out.

Boost

Preston boss Alan Irvine is hoping for a triple injury boost ahead of the crunch trip. Left-back Callum Davidson could be available again after missing the past two games due to a knee injury. The niggling complaint has forced him to sit out five Preston games and three Scotland internationals in total this season but he could be available after a series of injections. Midfielder Richard Chaplow has also been absent for the last two matches with a hamstring injury but is hoping to be passed fit to face his former club. Meanwhile, striker Chris Brown is nearing full fitness after a bout of sciatica and ankle problems, and could make his first appearance of the season from the bench. Goalkeeper Wayne Henderson (back) and defenders Liam Chilvers (Achilles) and Neal Trotman (hernia) remain sidelined.
