Bordeaux put a major dent in Montpellier's European hopes as they claimed a convincing 4-2 win at the Stade Chaban-Delmas. Ludovic Sane put Les Girondins ahead in the 11th minute and two quickfire goals from Cheick Diabate and Jaroslav Plasil had them 3-0 up before the half-hour. Remy Cabella pulled a goal back in first-half stoppage time but Henri Saivet restored the three-goal advantage before Benjamin Stambouli netted a late consolation for the defending champions. The result leaves Montpelier four points behind fifth-placed Lille, who play tomorrow, while Bordeaux are a further two points back following their win. The home side nearly took the lead in the sixth minute when Ludovic Obraniak's free-kick found Julien Faubert, whose header hit the post. And five minutes later they were ahead as Gregory Sertic swung in a corner from the left and Sane powered home a header from six yards. Diabate doubled the lead in the 24th minute as he was found by Obraniak and beat Abdelhamid El Kaoutari and Vitorino Hilton before rifling a shot past Geoffrey Jourdren. Two minutes later it was 3-0 when Benoit Tremoulinas' low cross was met by Plasil with the visiting defence flat-footed. Cabella gave Montpelier a glimmer of hope just before the break as he exchanged passes with Souleymane Camara and beat Cedric Carrasso but the hope was to be short-lived. Nine minutes after the break it was essentially all over as Tremoulinas once again supplied a low cross which was tucked away, this time by Saivet. Stambouli netted following a goalmouth scramble in injury time but it was a comfortable victory for the home side.
