Bolton v Man City preview

Image: Coyle: Will want Bolton to snap out of their losing slump

Derby day in the North West will see Bolton aiming to end on a high and Man City looking to seal third place.

Local rivalries are rekindled on the final day of the 2010/11 campaign

Derby day in the North West will see Bolton aiming to end on a high and Manchester City looking to seal third place. The Trotters appeared to be certainties for a top-half finish a few weeks ago, but have seen an alarming slump place their top-10 standing under threat. Owen Coyle's side have suffered four straight defeats and will want to address that wobble on the final day of the season. On a positive note for Bolton, they have won four, drawn one and lost one of their previous six last day fixtures in the Premier League. They have, however, failed to find the target in four of their last six meetings with City and need to find their shooting boots again this weekend. The Blues will make the short trip to the Reebok Stadium hoping to wrap up their first top-three finish in 34 years. Third place will also be enough for City to secure a direct route to the group stage of next season's UEFA Champions League. Roberto Mancini's side have not fared particularly well at the Reebok in recent years, though, winning none of their last five games at Bolton and failing to score in four of those fixtures. There is a chance City could take their eye off the ball again this weekend, with Carlos Tevez's announcement that he wishes to leave the club coming as a blow to all concerned. Bolton have no fresh injury or suspension concerns to contend with this weekend, leaving Coyle with almost a fully-fit squad.

Team news

Stuart Holden remains a long-term absentee with a knee injury, while Sean Davis (knee) and Sam Ricketts (calf) will also be unavailable until next season. With the Trotters having faltered of late, Coyle may decide to shuffle his pack and give a few of those on the fringes of the first-team fold an opportunity to shine. Sunday's game will see Daniel Sturridge make his last appearance of a productive loan spell before returning to Chelsea. Jerome Boateng remains the only notable absentee for City as he continues to nurse a knee complaint. Mancini may also decide to make changes to his starting XI, with the Blues having been in midweek action against Stoke. Gareth Barry is among those pushing for a recall, having been benched against the Potters, while Mario Balotelli could be drafted back into the matchday squad after being rested on Tuesday.
