Bologna eased their relegation worries with a convincing 4-0 win over Chievo.

Bologna eased their relegation worries with a convincing 4-0 win over Chievo in a one-sided game which kicked off the second half of the Serie A season. Panagiotis Kone got the home team on the way in the 12th minute, with Alberto Gilardino doubling their lead two minutes before the interval. Gilardino effectively wrapped things up on the hour mark, with Chievo showing no signs of a recovery, although Alberto Paloschi hit a post late on before Manolo Gabbiadini added a fourth in the 89th minute. The win lifted the Rossoblu to within three points of their opponents and five points clear of the relegation zone. Chievo started the game in confident fashion, giving no indication of what was to come. Bologna needed a bit longer to get warmed up, but a corner from Alessandro Diamanti provided them with the opening goal with their first real attack. His cross was met by the head of Kone, who beat Stefano Sorrentino with a determined header into the roof of the net. The goal gave Bologna confidence and belief and, from that moment forth, there was only one side in the game. Gilardino added a second just before the break with his first real sight of goal, netting his seventh goal of the season by beating Sorrentino when one-on-one with the keeper. Gilardino's second in the 59th minute finished Chievo off. It came from Bologna's second corner of the game, again from Diamanti with Gilardino this time poaching from close range. When Paloschi only struck the right-hand post with just Federico Agliardi to beat in the 86th minute, it was clear that it was not going to be Chievo's night. And Gabbiadini drove the point home in the 89th minute when he used his strength to hold off a defender before shooting in off the inside of the far post with Sorrentino beaten for the fourth time.
