Cardiff march on to round two

Bournemouth were dumped out of the Carling Cup in the first round after a 2-1 defeat against Cardiff. Paul Parry was the hero for the Bluebirds as he scored twice early on to give the Championship side a comfortable cushion. Jo Kuffour did pull one back for the hosts just before the half-hour mark, but they were unable to find a second. Welsh international Parry took just seven minutes to open the scoring with a fine right-footed finish from the edge of the penalty area after latching on to Peter Whittingham's pinpoint pass. Parry then looked to have put the game out of Bournemouth's reach after 13 minutes when he cashed in on some sloppy defending to head into an empty net. Bournemouth striker Kuffour gave the home side hope with 28 minutes gone, outpacing defender Roger Johnson before firing into the bottom left corner from 12 yards. Former Wolves front man Jay Bothroyd should have made the victory secure on the stroke of half-time when he was guilty of a glaring miss, smashing over from two yards after Johnson's header had been pushed to his feet.
