Barcelona play hosts to Lyon

Barcelona begin their assault on this season's UEFA Champions League with a tricky home game against French champions Lyon. The Spaniards are looking to find a bit of form when they open their Group E account, having recorded two 0-0 draws in their first three Primera Liga matches of the season. Coach Frank Rijkaard will be boosted by the return of influential striker Lionel Messi and defender Rafael Marquez who missed the stalemate against Osasuna last Sunday through injury and suspension respectively. Thierry Henry, Yaya Toure and Gabriel Milito could all make their European bows for the 2006 champions whilst Eric Abidal is also expected to play against his former employers. Lyon visit Camp Nou boasting an impressive away record in the Champions League, having recorded eight wins and one draw from their last 14 games on the road. The French champions - who are gunning for their seventh straight Ligue 1 title this season - should have a fully fit squad to choose from, including the 19-year-old prodigy Karim Benzema. The striker is in red hot form so far this term, helping his team to second spot in the league, and after disposing of Metz almost single handedly with a stunning hat-trick at the weekend, he could pose a real threat for Barcelona.
