Accrington v Carlisle preview

Image: Barnett: Suspended for Reds

Team news ahead of Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy first-round clash between Accrington and Carlisle at Crown Ground.

Accrington boss John Coleman will be without three players for his side's home tie. Defender Kevin Long and midfielder Charlie Barnett were both sent off during Saturday's goalless draw at Barnet and begin one and three-match bans respectively. Nat Taylor is still suspended for another three weeks for a red card he picked up last season. On-loan Colchester defender Tom Bender made his debut for Stanley as a substitute at Barnet on Saturday and could be handed his first start. The 18-year-old has been called up to the Wales Under-19s squad for their trip to Slovenia later this month but will be available to face the Cumbrians. Wembley hero Peter Murphy could return to the Carlisle line-up. Defender Murphy, the Cumbrians' longest-serving player, netted early in the first half of last season's final against Brentford and his solitary strike proved enough to secure the victory. He was an unused substitute in the 3-1 defeat by MK Dons on Saturday after missing the previous two games with a back spasm, and is now expected to return to the starting XI. Manager Greg Abbott will have to make do without Lubo Michalik once more as the defender is away on international duty with Slovakia. Frank Simek (hip) and Paddy Madden (foot) are long-term absentees. Abbott will name a strong line-up as Carlisle have reached the final in the previous two campaigns.
