Fernando Alonso says 'high-risk' pass on Vettel at British GP 'unlikely' to be repeated

Spaniard won plaudits for 180mph around-the-outside move

Fernando Alonso has admitted that it's "unlikely" he will ever repeat his daring around-the-outside move on Sebastian Vettel in the British GP.

The Spaniard and his perennial Red Bull rival waged an intense duel for fifth position in the final stint of Sunday's dramatic race with their battle playing out in not only a succession of wheel-to-wheel dices but also a stream of radio protestations from both drivers claiming that the other was exceeding track limits.

Although Vettel eventually won out when he passed Alonso on the inside of Copse with four laps to go, it was the Ferrari driver's earlier overtake on the German around the outside of the same 180mph sweeping right-hander which won all the post-race plaudits.

Tweeting details about the stunning overtake on Sunday night, Alonso admitted it would likely prove a one-off in his career.

Although the World Champion pair waged season-long championship duels in 2010 and 2012, Sunday at Silverstone was arguably the longest they have ever spent in such closely-fought combat in one race.

Sky Sports F1's Martin Brundle was full of praise for both men's level of driving.
